GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT IMPLANT PLACEMENT
Dental implant placement is the first stage of replacing a missing tooth with a dental implant. The procedure involves placing a small titanium implant into the jawbone, where it acts as an artificial tooth root and creates a stable foundation for a replacement tooth.
Once the implant is placed, the jawbone gradually grows around it through a natural process called osseointegration. This helps create a strong and stable foundation for the next stage of treatment, which may involve an implant crown, bridge or denture. Dental implant placement can be used to replace a single missing tooth, several missing teeth or support a full-arch restoration. If there is not enough bone to support an implant, additional procedures such as bone grafting may sometimes be recommended.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
CAN IMPLANT BE PLACED IMMEDIATELY AFTER TOOTH REMOVAL?
In some suitable cases, an implant can be placed at the same appointment as tooth removal. Your dentist will assess the tooth, surrounding bone and your oral health to determine whether immediate placement is appropriate.
DO I NEED A BONE GRAFT?
Not everyone needs a bone graft. If there is insufficient bone to support an implant securely, additional treatment may be recommended before or alongside implant placement.
HOW CAN I CARE FOR MY MOUTH AFTER IMPLANT PLACEMENT?
You will receive personalised aftercare instructions. Good oral hygiene and attending your follow-up appointments are important for supporting healing and the long-term health of your implant.
